Composites
Gel Coats
Gelcoat is a specialized, typically pigmented resin (polyester or epoxy) applied to the surface of fiber-reinforced composites to provide a durable, high-gloss finish, color, and protection against UV rays, water (hydrolysis), and wear. Applied to molds, it creates a 0.5–0.8 mm thick, scratch-resistant outer layer, commonly used in boats, RVs, and swimming pools.
Carbon Fiber
Carbon fibers or carbon fibres (alternatively CF, graphite fiber or graphite fibre) are fibers about 5 to 10 micrometers (0.00020–0.00039 in) in diameter and composed mostly of carbon atoms.
